Dr. Muhammad Yunus, a Nobel laureate, will serve as the chief adviser to Bangladesh's interim government, as announced by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement coordinators on Tuesday.

In a video posted early Tuesday, movement coordinator Nahid Islam confirmed that Yunus has accepted the student community's call to help save the country, as reported by the Daily Star newspaper.

Nahid urged President Mohammed Shahabuddin to expedite the formation of the interim government headed by Yunus, following widespread violence and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's sudden resignation and departure. The president has also ordered the release of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.
