Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has accused the Modi government of concealing critical data on vacancies in the armed forces, suggesting this might undermine trust in the Agnipath military recruitment scheme.
In a response to a query raised in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth stated that the details were sensitive and not in the interest of national security to disclose publicly. Kharge condemned this stance, arguing that the transparency of such information was vital for the nation's security and integrity.
Highlighting that over 1.55 lakh posts are reportedly vacant as of March 2023, Kharge emphasized the need for the government to divulge these details, suggesting that withholding them may be politically motivated to obscure the shortcomings of the Agnipath scheme.
