Congress MP Pramod Tiwari has blamed the negligence of support staff for wrestler Vinesh Phogat's disqualification from the Paris Olympics. Tiwari stated, "She must have been under 50 kg, only then she must have been allowed. Then we should get that silver." He was speaking to ANI about the incident.
Vinesh Phogat, who was set to face the USA's Sarah Ann Hildebrandt in the Gold Medal match, was disqualified for weighing over the 50 kg limit. Despite defeating Cuba's Yusneylis Guzman Lopez in the semi-finals, Phogat tipped the scales above the limit and was disqualified.
Haryana CM Nayab Saini ensured that Phogat would be welcomed with the same honors as an Olympic medalist. Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President PT Usha also expressed her shock and confirmed that Phogat, while physically fine, is working with support staff to manage her weight. Chief Medical Officer Dinshaw Pardiwala noted Phogat was 2.7 kg over the limit after her semi-final bout.
Despite the setback, Phogat has had a distinguished career, winning multiple medals including two World Championships bronzes, an Asian Games gold, and three Commonwealth Games golds.
