Shiv Sena MP Milind Deora launched a scathing attack on Shiv Sena (UBT) Chief Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday, accusing him of hypocrisy. Deora pointed out that Uddhav's MPs were absent during the crucial discussion on the Waqf Board Bill in Parliament, highlighting a silence that has left the Muslim community seeking answers.
In a post on social media platform X, Deora stated, "Today in Parliament, the real face of Uddhav Thackeray's UBT representatives and their hypocrisy was exposed when all UBT representatives were absent during the discussion on the Waqf Board Bill. Muslims voted for you, but why is there silence in return? Muslims will definitely seek the answer to this question from the MPs of UBT."
Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde, defending the bill, asserted that it would bring much-needed transparency and accountability, particularly benefiting the minority Muslim community. The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, introduced by Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, aims to address issues related to waqf properties, including registration, survey, and removal of encroachments. The bill proposes significant reforms including the omission of section 40 and enhancements to the tribunal structure.
