Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus was sworn in as the head of an interim government in Bangladesh on Thursday, following Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's abrupt resignation and departure to India amid violent protests.

Yunus, aged 84, took the oath of office from President Mohammed Shahabuddin during a ceremony at the presidential palace, Bangabhaban. A 16-member advisory council, including prominent activists Md. Nahid Islam and Asif Mahmud, was appointed to assist him in managing the country's affairs.

In a televised address post-oath, Yunus pledged to tackle the anarchic situation and ensure citizen safety. His administration will oversee elections to transition to an elected government. Attendees at the ceremony included political leaders, military officials, and diplomats, signaling broad support for Yunus's leadership.
