The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is gearing up to launch a significant membership drive on August 17, ultimately leading to the election of a new party president.
Incumbent president J P Nadda, who has joined Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Cabinet, is poised to be replaced following the BJP's tradition of 'one person one post'. Unlike 2019, there is no clear successor visible at this time.
In preparation for the organisational polls, senior BJP leaders, including Amit Shah and Nadda, have consulted with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). The meeting at Defence Minister Rajnath Singh's residence also covered various issues, including the situation of Hindus in Bangladesh and the upcoming Hindutva organisation's coordination meet in Kerala.
This membership drive will be crucial for the BJP as it involves forming new committees at different organisational levels before delegates meet to elect the national president.
