The Congress on Wednesday named Abhishek Manu Singhvi as its candidate for the ensuing Rajya Sabha bypoll in Telangana.
Scheduled for September 3, these elections will fill 12 Rajya Sabha seats across nine states, including Telangana. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge sanctioned Singhvi's candidacy, the party disclosed in an official statement.
Expressing his gratitude on social media platform X, Singhvi thanked the senior Congress leadership, including Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi. This round of bypolls includes vacancies in Telangana and Odisha, following the recent resignations of K Keshava Rao and Mamata Mohanta.
Singhvi's previous attempt to secure a Rajya Sabha seat from Himachal Pradesh ended in a draw, which was resolved in favor of BJP nominee Harsh Mahajan. Despite this setback, Singhvi's prospects look promising now given the Congress's majority in Telangana.
