Hunter Biden reached out to the U.S. ambassador to Italy in 2016 while pursuing a geothermal project at the Ukrainian company Burisma, where he was a board member, reports the New York Times. An attorney for Biden said the request sought only an introduction in Italy, which did not result in any meeting or project.
The New York Times reports that it is unclear whether the U.S. Embassy took any steps for Burisma. Republicans have raised unproven financial misconduct claims involving Hunter and Joe Biden, which the White House denies. The White House did not immediately respond to Reuters for comment.
Meanwhile, Hunter Biden, who has dealt with various legal issues, pleaded not guilty to tax charges and faces sentencing for gun charges. Writing by Susan Heavey; Editing by Leslie Adler.
