K T Rama Rao, the Working President of BRS, is under fire for his controversial comments regarding the Congress government's free travel scheme for women in state-run RTC buses. Telangana Minister D Anasuya strongly criticized his remarks on Thursday.
Speaking at the BRS office, Rao stated that his party would not object if women engaged in activities like knitting while traveling on the buses. However, he emphasized that BRS wants to avoid scuffles and overcrowded conditions in public transport.
Rao also questioned whether such issues ever occurred during the previous BRS regime. He urged the government to ensure an adequate number of buses for passenger convenience, responding to remarks made by State Women and Child Welfare Minister Anasuya.
Minister Anasuya took exception to Rao's comments and demanded an apology from BRS and Rao to the women of Telangana. She accused BRS of spreading false information about the free bus travel scheme and criticized Rao for making light of the situation.
Additionally, Telangana State Women's Commission chairperson Nerella Sharada announced that the commission has taken suo motu cognizance of a media post by Rama Rao, describing it as derogatory towards women. The commission has initiated an inquiry into the matter under its defining act.
