A pivotal meeting of district secretaries of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) took place at the party’s headquarters in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Friday. Key issues were discussed, setting the agenda for both local body and state assembly elections slated for 2026.
Chaired by DMK President and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, the assembly passed three significant resolutions. One praised the central government for issuing a Rs 100 coin honoring the centenary of Karunanidhi. Criticism was also directed at the central government for perceived neglect of Tamil Nadu in the Union Budget and alleged discrimination against the state’s railway projects. Additionally, preparations for the grandiose 'Mupperum Vizha' celebration marking the DMK's Platinum Jubilee were discussed.
Another resolution scrutinized the Union Government’s treatment of Tamil Nadu, accusing it of biased allocation in the Union Budget and discriminatory practices towards the state's railway infrastructure. DMK General Secretary Duraimurugan took the opportunity to release MK Stalin’s latest book, 'Parliamentary Election 2024: 40/40 Verdict of the South,' received by DMK Treasurer and MP TR Baalu.
Addressing party members, MK Stalin emphasized the importance of continuous political engagement and preparation for impending elections. He urged members to articulate the party’s achievements while effectively countering criticisms. Stalin also stressed the necessity of grassroots work to convert government programs into electoral support.
Despite an impending trip to the United States to attract investments, Stalin asserted he would remain engaged in preparations for the 'Mupperum Vizha,' ensuring oversight and involvement in critical decisions. He reassured members of his commitment to both the party's strategic goals and the upcoming celebration.
