In a scathing critique, Sharad Pawar, president of the Nationalist Congress Party, condemned the Centre on Friday for not allotting Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi a front-row seat during the Independence Day celebrations.
Addressing opposition bloc Maha Vikas Aghadi, Pawar argued that disrespecting the Leader of Opposition's post signifies a continuous threat to democratic principles, despite the BJP not securing a majority in the Lok Sabha.
Pawar highlighted that during Atal Bihari Vajpayee's and Manmohan Singh's tenures, respective LoPs were seated beside cabinet ministers, stressing that both the Prime Minister's and Leader of Opposition's offices deserve equal respect and prestige.
