US President Joe Biden shared a positive outlook on Friday regarding the potential for a ceasefire and hostage release deal between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. According to Biden, “we are closer than we've ever been” to reaching an agreement.

In remarks made at the Oval Office following two days of discussions in Doha, Biden revealed that negotiations would resume next week. “I don't want to jinx anything,” he said, emphasizing that the ceasefire is “much, much closer than it was three days ago.” This isn't the first time in the 10-month-long conflict that Biden has shown optimism toward an agreement, though previous efforts have fallen apart.

“We may have something,” Biden commented on Friday. “But we're not there yet.”
