Congress MLA Devendra Yadav was arrested on Saturday in connection with the June 10 violence in Chhattisgarh's Balodabazar city during a Satnami community agitation, according to a police report.
Yadav has accused the BJP government of conducting a political vendetta against Congress workers in the arson case. He was apprehended from his residence in Durg district and brought to Balodabazar, the headquarters of Balodabazar-Bhatapara district, where he was formally arrested.
Yadav's arrest has attracted the attention of many of his supporters, who gathered outside his residence to protest. The case against Yadav includes charges of promoting enmity, criminal conspiracy, and rioting under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act.
