Kumari Selja, Congress general secretary, on Monday brought to light the severe issue of drug addiction plaguing Haryana, revealing that 13 of the state's 22 districts are severely affected.
According to the Sirsa MP, drug abuse is rampant, especially in areas bordering Punjab and Rajasthan. She cited districts such as Hisar, Sirsa, Bhiwani-Mahendragarh, Ambala, and Kurukshetra as hot spots, with neighboring constituencies like Karnal, Sonipat, Faridabad, and Gurugram also grappling with drug influx.
Once renowned for its dairy heritage, Haryana now paints a grim picture due to the escalating drug menace, Selja noted. Despite continuous warnings from Congress, the government has failed to curb drug trafficking, choosing instead to focus on public events. The government's 'Narcotics Control Bureau' has acknowledged the crisis, with drugs being smuggled into Haryana and the NCR region from abroad.
