The BJP on Friday criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, accusing her of doing nothing to ensure the implementation of strict rules to safeguard women. The BJP's critique followed Banerjee's letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging for stronger central legislation against heinous crimes like rape and murder.
Amit Malviya, BJP co-incharge for West Bengal, demanded Banerjee explain her government's inaction. He suggested that instead of writing letters, Banerjee should address the existing issues and be accountable for women's safety.
Banerjee stated she received a reply from Union Women and Child Development Minister Annapurna Devi but found it lacking in addressing the gravity of the issue. Malviya responded sharply, labeling Banerjee a "liar" and accusing her of failing to set up fast-track courts for rape and POCSO cases, while also alleging her involvement in various misdemeanors.
