Brazil's Supreme Court Faces Decision on Social Media Platform Shutdown
A panel from Brazil's Supreme Court will vote on maintaining Justice Alexandre de Moraes' ruling to shut down social media platform X. The decision stems from X failing to meet a legal deadline to appoint a representative in Brazil, amid a feud over hate speech regulations.

Brazil's Supreme Court is set to vote on Monday on whether to uphold Justice Alexandre de Moraes' ruling to shut down social media platform X in the country. Moraes, labeled a “dictator” by X owner Elon Musk, called a virtual session for his peers in the court's first chamber to review his decision.
The Supreme Court has 11 justices divided into two chambers of five members each, excluding the chief justice. They have the authority to maintain or reject individual judge decisions.
X, a popular social media platform, was taken down in Brazil, one of its largest markets, early Saturday following a decision by Moraes. It missed a Thursday evening deadline to name a legal representative as required by local law, which led to the suspension.
