Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chief Mehbooba Mufti has firmly dismissed any clandestine talks with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. 'We don't do anything 'chupke chupke'. When we were talking to Ram Madhav, we did so openly,' Mufti asserted.

On the other hand, the debate over political alliances continues with Devender Singh Rana, a defector from the National Conference (NC) and a current BJP leader, claiming that NC head Omar Abdullah sought a government formation deal with BJP in 2014. According to Rana, NC's attempts were rejected by BJP at that time, highlighting what he sees as Abdullah's hypocrisy.

The upcoming Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir are set to be significant, being the first since the abrogation of Article 370. The Congress and NC have formed an alliance, sharing 83 seats while other parties are also showing their support. The voting will take place in three phases with the results to be announced on October 8.
