The Kremlin on Friday accused the United States of exerting unacceptable pressure on Russian media. This follows charges by the U.S. Justice Department against Russian TV contributor Dimitri Simes and his wife for allegedly violating U.S. sanctions.

The indictments come amid a series of U.S. actions aimed at curbing alleged Russian interference in the upcoming 2024 presidential elections. These actions include charges against two RT employees and sanctions on the Russian state media network and its top editor.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Washington's efforts are aimed at ensuring Moscow's perspective on global affairs is unavailable. He condemned this as unacceptable pressure. Peskov hinted that Russia would respond by scrutinizing foreign media outlets' editorial policies and reacting on a case-by-case basis.
