AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi has opposed the 'one nation one election' proposal, asserting it would harm federalism and democracy. He argued that frequent elections benefit the poor by forcing governments to take pro-poor decisions. Asaduddin Owaisi, president of AIMIM, voiced strong opposition to the 'one nation, one election' proposal on Wednesday, claiming it jeopardizes federalism and democratic integrity.

Owaisi highlighted that frequent elections historically compel ruling governments, like the NDA, to make pro-poor decisions, citing actions against rising fuel prices as an example. He warned that holding elections every five years would diminish the bargaining power of voters.

Accusing the BJP of trying to weaken regional parties, Owaisi questioned the practicalities of curtailing state legislatures' tenures and managing mid-term government collapses. He emphasized that democracy and constitutional principles should not be subverted for administrative convenience or cost-saving measures.

Additionally, Owaisi criticized Union Home Minister Amit Shah for allegedly attempting to pressure legislative matters and welcomed the Supreme Court's stance against unauthorized demolitions, linking BJP's actions to broader constitutional violations.
