Makkal Needhi Maiam founder and top actor Kamal Haasan has criticized the 'One Nation, One Election' proposal, branding it as dangerous and fundamentally flawed. He asserted that such a concept is neither needed now nor in the future for India.

Without pointing to any specific party or leader, Haasan argued that simultaneous elections in 2014 or 2015 could have resulted in a complete political sweep, risking dictatorship, loss of freedom of speech, and over-centralization of power. 'We have narrowly escaped a peril far worse than Coronavirus,' he remarked during a party meeting.

Haasan also drew attention to the negative experiences of simultaneous polls in parts of Europe and Russia, urging that voters need ample time to deliberate and make their choices. He illustrated his point by comparing it to a scenario where all traffic lights display the same color simultaneously.
