Madhukar Ralebhat, a prominent leader from the Sharad Pawar faction of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday. The induction ceremony took place in the presence of the BJP's state unit president Chandrashekhar Bawankule and Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis.

During the ceremony, Fadnavis extended a warm welcome to Ralebhat. 'I welcome Madhukar Ralebhat to the party. Many other leaders have also joined alongside him. None of them was born with a silver spoon; all are hardworking and dedicated individuals,' he said. Fadnavis emphasized the BJP's commitment to addressing issues promptly, stating, 'Only a respectable person can understand the pain of another. Our government takes decisions immediately whether it is about water problems or any other issue.'

The joining comes against the backdrop of recent political shifts in Maharashtra. On September 20, OBC leader Ishwar Balbudhe shifted allegiance from the Ajit Pawar-led NCP faction to the Sharad Pawar-led opposition camp. Additionally, former BJP MLA Bapusaheb Tukaram Pathare joined the Sharad Pawar faction on September 18. These developments are significant as Maharashtra prepares for its legislative assembly elections.

The state is gearing up for elections in 288 constituencies, with the Election Commission yet to announce the official dates. The contest will see the Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition, comprising the UBT Shiv Sena, NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) and Congress, clashing with the Maha Yuti Alliance, which includes BJP, Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction), and NCP (Ajit Pawar faction).

Recent Lok Sabha elections provided a boost to the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance, which secured 30 seats in total, while the Mahayuti alliance lagged behind with 17 seats.
