In a major political shift ahead of Saturday's Haryana Assembly elections, Amar Singh, AAP's candidate for the Nilokheri (reserve) seat, defected to the Congress on Wednesday.
After his defection, Singh asserted that only Congress has the capacity to unseat the BJP government, which he claims has been unjust to farmers, women, Dalits, and minorities. Singh formally joined the Congress in the presence of Pratap Singh Bajwa, the Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Assembly, according to a party statement.
Bajwa welcomed Singh into the Congress fold, stating that he has joined the party unconditionally and has pledged full support to Dharampal Gondar, the Congress candidate from Nilokheri. Singh emphasized that a direct fight between Congress and BJP is unfolding in Haryana, particularly in Nilokheri, and his main objective is to oust the BJP from power.
