Ghana's President Nana Akufo-Addo has extolled past and present directors, management and staff of the Research Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration for their contribution towards the conduct of country's foreign policy and the sustenance of peace and stability in the country since independence.

President Nana Akufo-Addo said that the Research Department had lived up to its goals and described the entity as "an excellent example of an organisation holding firm onto its character, integrity, standards and values through the years". He gave his speech at a special durbar that was raised to mark the 60th anniversary of the department (that was established in December 1958).

Ghana's Head of State paid tribute to Kwame Nkrumah, country's first prime minister and president for his foresight in establishing the Research Department. He also paid tribute by recalling India's first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru and his government that assisted in training and pioneering officers of the department by providing its first two directors.

Nana Akufo-Addo vowed government's continuous support to the department, and instead suggested the staff to be aware of the new threats to global security added with their loyalty to the nation. "The overall contributions of the department have, in many ways, not only shaped policy formulation but more importantly helped successive governments to defend and protect the sovereignty of Ghana and promote peace and stability in the sub-region," Minister of Foreign Affair Shirley Ayorkor Botchway said.

On the other hand, Albert Kan-Dapaah, the current Minister of National Security also praised officers of the departments for their professionalism and dedication to duty. He also urged the current leadership to build on the solid foundations of the first 60 years.
