Veteran tribal leader and former Rajya Sabha MP, Dhaneswar Majhi, passed away at Kalahandi's Kesinga Hospital, marking the end of an era in Odisha politics.
Majhi, aged 83, was an influential presence, serving as a five-time MLA from the Kesinga and Narla assembly constituencies. He was elected to the Odisha Assembly in 1971, 1974, 2000, 2004, and 2014, and was a Rajya Sabha member from 1978 to 1984.
Although initially part of the Janata Dal and Biju Janata Dal, Majhi later joined the BJP. His demise was widely mourned, with tributes from Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and BJD president Naveen Patnaik, both recognizing his contributions to society.
