The Trinamool Congress has formally accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of breaching the Model Code of Conduct, filing a complaint with the Election Commission of India. The accusation stems from remarks made by Shah during an event in West Bengal, which the Trinamool claims were politically charged and inappropriate for an official function.
In a letter penned by West Bengal Trinamool Congress chief Subrata Bakshi, the minister is accused of making slanderous comments aimed at Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee. The remarks, allegedly centered around a call for a "parivartan in 2026," were seen as an attempt to malign Banerjee, and were deemed irrelevant to the event at hand.
The Trinamool cited the Election Commission's guidelines, which stipulate that officials should refrain from using official platforms for electioneering, and has demanded a show cause notice be issued to Shah. They also asked for measures to prevent further alleged violations of the MCC by BJP leaders ahead of the upcoming bypolls in six constituencies in the state.
