NATO allies underscored the critical importance of Ukraine's participation in any peace negotiations, following US President Donald Trump's indication of upcoming talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Concerns were raised at NATO headquarters on Thursday regarding Trump's stance that Ukraine should not join the alliance.
UK Defence Secretary John Healey emphasized, 'There can be no negotiation about Ukraine without Ukraine.' His remarks were part of a broader message from European leaders insisting on their role in future security arrangements, as they currently provide significant military aid.
European leaders, including Swedish Defence Minister Pal Jonson and Estonian Defence Minister Hanno Pevkur, highlighted their nations' contributions to Ukraine's military efforts and peacekeeping negotiations. US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, however, urged a pragmatic approach by Kyiv in considering a peace settlement backed by international forces.
