Trump-Putin Summit: A New Approach to Ending Ukraine War?
The Kremlin expressed approval of U.S. President Donald Trump's stance on resolving the Ukraine war, marking a significant contrast to former U.S. President Joe Biden's approach. Preparations for a Trump-Putin meeting are being made, promising a dialogue focused on a peaceful resolution, involving discussions on energy and negotiations.
The Kremlin has expressed admiration for President Donald Trump's efforts to end the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. According to Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, preparations are underway for a meeting between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin to explore peaceful resolutions.
Contrary to the previous U.S. administration’s approach under Joe Biden, which favored prolonging the conflict, Peskov indicated that there is now a strong political will on both sides to prioritize dialogue and negotiated settlement. Peskov highlighted Trump’s initiative to engage directly with Putin, emphasizing the mutual openness to discussion.
While European officials, including EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, insist on their involvement in peace talks, the specific format for negotiations remains undecided. Trump plans to meet Putin, potentially in Saudi Arabia, signaling a shift in diplomatic strategies to potentially conclude the ongoing Ukraine war.
