In a significant legal development, a local court in Shamli has convicted Samajwadi Party MLA Nahid Hasan for making insulting remarks against Narendra Modi during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
The Chief Judicial Magistrate Pratibha's court imposed a penalty of Rs 100 on Hasan, who faces a month's imprisonment if the fine remains unpaid, a prosecution officer confirmed.
The case, registered on March 28, 2014, alleged that Hasan, while contesting from Kairana, made derogatory statements against Modi and Mayawati, drawing significant attention during the campaign period.
