Tension Rises as M23 Rebels Advance in Congo

Families stayed indoors, and shops remained closed as the M23, comprising approximately 4,000 troops, expanded further southwards after previously seizing Goma. This escalation has resulted in dire circumstances, with over 350,000 individuals internally displaced and 2,000 lives lost.

As rebel forces claim control over Kavumu airport, worries rise about their potential reach and its implications. The international community, meanwhile, looks towards the African Union summit in Ethiopia for solutions to this crisis, as Congolese President Felix Tshisekedi calls for global intervention.
