In a shocking incident in West Bengal's Birbhum district, a TMC worker named Sheikh Niamul was allegedly beaten to death, police confirmed on Saturday.

According to the authorities, Niamul was stopped by unidentified men near Kankratala bus stop on Friday night, where he was brutally attacked with rods and stones.

Despite being rushed to Siuri Sadar Hospital and subsequently transferred to a private facility, Niamul succumbed to his injuries en route. His brother, Enamul Sheikh, also a TMC worker, accused a rival party faction that allegedly supported the BJP in the last elections.

The district TMC dismissed these claims, suggesting BJP members orchestrated the attack to incite fear ahead of the 2026 assembly elections. Contrarily, the BJP condemned the murder, citing it as evidence of the state's deteriorating law and order. As the police continue their investigation, no arrests have yet been made.
