In a significant political development, Atishi, the former Chief Minister of Delhi, has been appointed as the Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly. This decision was announced following a meeting of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs in the capital on Sunday.
The meeting saw the presence of AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal along with the party's 22 legislators, including Kalkaji MLA Atishi. This move comes ahead of the first assembly session scheduled to start on February 24.
The session is expected to be contentious as the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) plans to table pending CAG reports that critique the performance of the prior AAP-led government. BJP recently came to power, securing 48 out of 70 seats in the February 5 elections, ousting AAP. Notably, Kejriwal and other senior party leaders faced defeat in the polls.
