Congress Challenges Modi Over Trump's Trade Tariffs

The Congress has criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not confronting US President Donald Trump's plans to impose reciprocal tariffs, which counter the principles of international trade. They urge Modi to clarify strategies to safeguard domestic interests.

In a recent statement, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh highlighted that reciprocal tariffs could harm Indian agriculture and MSMEs. Ramesh insisted that Modi should remind his 'good friend' Trump that the World Trade Organization (WTO) prioritizes trade.

The Congress also questioned how the government intends to protect Indian farmers and the MSME sector from the effect of increased imports and escalate competition. They demanded assurances against transforming India into a dumping ground for US agricultural products.
