Atishi Leads AAP's Fiery Protest Against Assembly Ban

AAP MLA Atishi, alongside disgruntled colleagues, protests the barring of suspended members from the Delhi Assembly premises, claiming it violates democratic norms. Despite past practices allowing access to suspended legislators, authorities maintained the ban, prompting Atishi to challenge this 'unconstitutional' move outside the Assembly on Thursday.

AAP's MLA and Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Atishi, along with fellow AAP MLAs, staged a protest outside the Assembly complex on Thursday after being denied entry. Holding 'Jai Bhim' placards, Atishi condemned the restriction as 'undemocratic and unconstitutional.'

Atishi questioned the rationale behind barring suspended legislators from the premises, referring to precedents from Parliament and state assemblies where such access is permitted. She argued that as elected officials, they should have rights to be present at the Assembly regardless of their suspension status.

The protest was sparked by the suspension of Atishi and 11 other AAP MLAs earlier this week by Speaker Vijender Gupta amid an uproar over the pending CAG report. Atishi highlighted that similar protests are customary in other legislative bodies, emphasizing their right to enter the premises.
