U.S.-Russia Ceasefire Talks for Ukraine Escalate Amid Tensions
The Kremlin is awaiting details from the U.S. about a proposed 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine. The U.S. has resumed military aid after Kyiv agreed to support the proposal. Meanwhile, Russia emphasizes its territorial gains and concerns, with ongoing discussions involving key figures like Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Amidst escalating tensions, the Kremlin announced on Wednesday that it is awaiting further details from Washington regarding a proposed 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine, a move announced after Moscow made significant advances in 2024.
U.S. President Donald Trump, after reversing previous U.S. policies, has initiated bilateral discussions with Russia, suspending military aid to Ukraine until conflict resolution steps are agreed upon. In contrast, the U.S. has now agreed to resume arms supplies after Kyiv's concession at Saudi Arabia talks.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov cautioned reporters against assumptions about Russia potentially linking a ceasefire with the lifting of international sanctions. Meanwhile, U.S. figures Marco Rubio and Mike Waltz work on diplomatic engagements, gearing up for continued dialogues involving Europe in security discussions for Ukraine.
