On Monday, both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha witnessed heated adjournments as BJP leaders clashed with the Congress over comments made by Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, allegedly concerning changes to the Constitution. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju and Union Health Minister JP Nadda spearheaded the BJP's offensive, putting the Congress on the defensive.
The controversy erupted earlier in the day when BJP leaders accused Shivakumar of proposing alterations to the Constitution. Rijiju demanded a clarification from Mallikarjun Kharge, the Leader of the Opposition, about the Congress's stance on Muslim reservations, labeling Shivakumar's comments as 'extremely serious.'
Meanwhile, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh filed a breach of privilege notice in the Rajya Sabha against Rijiju, accusing him of misleading the house. Shivakumar refuted the BJP's allegations, claiming that his statements were misconstrued, and expressed his intention to seek legal counsel. He accused the BJP of engaging in a disinformation campaign and emphasized the Congress's commitment to protect the Constitution.
