The Punjab Assembly witnessed dramatic scenes on Thursday as Congress legislators exited the session on three separate occasions. The walkouts followed demands for an apology from Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa for his contentious remarks against environmentalist and AAP MP, Balbir Singh Seechewal.
During the ongoing Budget Session, Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains presented a censure motion, which was successfully passed against Bajwa. Bajwa had criticized Seechewal's environmental model, describing it as 'failed,' and suggested consulting engineering institutions for technical guidance on environmental efforts in the state.
The ensuing verbal clash intensified when Bajwa attempted to move a resolution, advocating the Bharat Ratna for freedom fighter Bhagat Singh. The Speaker, however, maintained procedural rules, rejecting the proposal. As tensions flared, Congress MLAs, led by Bajwa, staged walkouts amidst a chorus of slogans against the ruling AAP government.
