In a sharp critique, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav accused the ruling BJP of trying to monopolize national icons, including Maharana Pratap. Speaking in Lucknow during Maharana Pratap Jayanti celebrations, Yadav urged political unity, stressing that historical figures should not be strategically used for political gain.
Highlighting the BJP's trend of 'rebranding' history, Yadav voiced concerns over the appropriation of cultural legacies. He noted that such actions, including renaming the Kumbh and claiming Maharana Pratap as a sole party figure, undermine communal heritage.
Yadav advocated for a bipartisan recognition of national icons and proposed a two-day public holiday for Maharana Pratap Jayanti. He affirmed the Samajwadi Party's dedication to honoring Maharana Pratap with a grand statue at the Gomti Riverfront.
