In a historic first, US President Donald Trump demonstrated "keen interest" in forging a long-term trade partnership with Pakistan, following a meeting with Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir. The dialogue, described as mutually beneficial, showcased strategic convergence and shared interests, according to the Pakistan Army's media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
During their discussions at the White House, which extended over two hours, the two leaders explored avenues for expanding cooperation across multiple domains, including economic development, energy, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies. The meeting also delved into joint counterterrorism efforts and prevailing geopolitical tensions in the region, notably the Iran-Israel conflict.
Pakistan's Defence Minister, Khawaja Asif, hailed the meeting as a milestone in Pak-US relations, attributing it to a "current hybrid model of governance." President Trump lauded Pakistan's role in regional stability, extending gratitude for facilitating peace with India. This unprecedented engagement marks a significant moment in reinforcing the longstanding ties between the two nations.
