Lalrintluanga Sailo, a prominent Mizo National Front legislator, has passed away in New Delhi, confirmed family sources. Aged 65, Sailo succumbed to a series of medical complications, including scrub typhus. He was under treatment at Max Superspecialty Hospital since June 29 after being flown from Mizoram due to high fever.
Despite initial signs of recovery, Sailo's health declined on Sunday, necessitating ventilator support, according to medical officials. His remains are expected back in Mizoram by Tuesday. Sailo's political journey began in 1960 when he joined the MNF, participating in the secessionist movement until 1986. He secured his Assembly seat from Dampa in 2018 and was re-elected in 2023.
Governor Vijay Kumar Singh and Chief Minister Lalduhoma have expressed their condolences, lauding Sailo’s contributions to Mizoram's development. The Chief Minister has instructed support for Sailo's family to facilitate the return of his body to Aizawl, ensuring all necessary arrangements are made.
