Vice President Dhankhar Steps Down: Health Priorities Ahead

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar has resigned due to health concerns, stepping down immediately. He sent his resignation letter to President Droupadi Murmu, citing advice from medical professionals. Dhankhar, who had been chairing Rajya Sabha sessions, assumed office in August 2022 and his duties were temporarily taken by Deputy Chairman Harivansh.

The Vice President, who is also the ex-officio Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, had been overseeing the proceedings of the upper house since August 2022. However, health priorities have necessitated this decision, which he communicated to President Droupadi Murmu on Monday evening.

Following his resignation, the duties of chairing the Rajya Sabha were taken over by Deputy Chairman Harivansh, who managed the morning session on Tuesday. Dhankhar emphasized the importance of adhering to medical advice as the primary reason for stepping down from his role.
