New Bill Introduced to Curb Corruption in High Offices

The central government has proposed a groundbreaking bill aiming to remove elected officials, including the Prime Minister and Chief Ministers, from office if they are arrested and detained for serious criminal charges without bail for over 30 days. Union Minister G Kishan Reddy emphasized that the law is a pivotal step against corruption.

Reddy criticized the INDIA bloc for their opposition to the bills, which set a legal framework for the removal of high-ranking officials jailed for corruption. He highlighted past cases, including Arvind Kejriwal and Senthil Balaji, to stress the necessity of such legislation.

The opposition slammed the amendments as unconstitutional, while Home Minister Amit Shah introduced additional bills in the Lok Sabha to further amend constitutional and regional governance laws. The proposed amendments have been forwarded to the joint committee of Parliament for review.
