Tensions soared at Delhi University's Kirori Mal College as prominent student groups NSUI and ABVP engaged in a clash on Tuesday, marking a tumultuous close to the campaign for the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) elections.
The incident erupted just ahead of a scheduled campus visit by Uttar Pradesh Congress president Ajay Rai, intending to bolster the NSUI campaign. The NSUI alleged that ABVP members launched an attack on their Purvanchal supporters, with Ajay Rai depicting the violence as an attempt to undermine NSUI's surging support.
In a strong rebuttal, ABVP accused Congress and NSUI of exacerbating tensions by involving external influencers, undermining campus safety, particularly for female students. Following the confrontation, law enforcement was called upon to ensure order as the elections are set for September 18, with vote counting slated for the following day.
