In a significant political move, Czech President Petr Pavel has selected Andrej Babis, leader of the ANO party, to spearhead negotiations for a new government formation. The decision marks a step towards Babis' potential return to political power.

The ANO party emerged victorious in the recent parliamentary election held on October 3-4, positioning itself as a key player in shaping the future government. To secure a majority in the lower house, the party is in talks with the right-wing, eurosceptic Motorists and the far-right, anti-EU and anti-NATO SPD parties. Together, they could command 108 out of the 200 available seats.

This coalition-building effort highlights the shifting dynamics in Czech politics and the rise of populist and eurosceptic sentiments within the region.
