The Shiv Sena (UBT) has issued a cautionary note to the Congress, urging restraint and advising against a standalone contest in the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections. The party expressed concern that such a move could inadvertently assist the BJP while undermining the opposition coalition, Maha Vikas Aghadi.
In a strongly-worded editorial published in Saamana, the Shiv Sena (UBT) highlighted the necessity of opposition unity. It asserted that a joint effort is needed to counter what it perceives as BJP's ambitions regarding Mumbai. The editorial also downplayed Congress' worries about potential electoral losses among north Indian and Muslim voters.
Amidst ongoing political maneuverings, the Shiv Sena (UBT) also underscored its support for Raj Thackeray. It suggested that unity among Marathi parties is crucial. Meanwhile, the Congress has defended its stance, citing constitutional values and inclusivity as core principles, rejecting any form of divisive politics.
