Accountability for Electoral Roll Lapses in West Bengal

The Election Commission announced on Tuesday that it will hold officers accountable if any lapses occur during the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in West Bengal. The announcement was made by Deputy Election Commissioner Gyanesh Bharti in a series of high-level review meetings held in Kolkata.
Chairing the review sessions, Bharti and senior EC officials engaged with district election officers and Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) from North and South 24 Parganas districts, as well as representatives from the Kolkata Uttar and Kolkata Dakshin Lok Sabha constituencies. They scrutinized the ongoing progress of the revision process.
The chief electoral officer, Manoj Kumar Agarwal, attended the meetings, where he witnessed detailed presentations by Kolkata electoral officials on the advancement of the SIR process. So far, 7.63 crore enumeration forms have been distributed across the state, achieving a coverage of 99.66 percent. Furthermore, 1.09 crore electoral forms have been digitized, marking 14.24 percent of the total distributed forms.
