The Congress party has accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of attempting to rewrite history and politicize the legacy of Jawaharlal Nehru during a recent debate on 'Vande Mataram' in the Lok Sabha. The opposition party claims the prime minister is giving a political color to a historic national song.
Gaurav Gogoi, Congress deputy leader in the House, stated that Modi frequently references Nehru and the Congress when discussing various issues, using 'Operation Sindoor' and the 75th Constitution anniversary debates as examples. Gogoi asserted that Congress, not the BJP, gave 'Vande Mataram' its significance.
During the debate, Gogoi highlighted Congress's historical role in making 'Vande Mataram' a national song, mentioning key moments and figures such as Rabindranath Tagore and Sarala Devi Chaudhurani. He criticized Modi's objectives to revise history and politicize the debate, while addressing past resistance from groups like the Muslim League and Hindu Mahasabha.
