On Tuesday, the United States and fellow members of the International Contact Group for the Great Lakes voiced serious concerns about escalating violence in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
In a joint statement, the group, which includes the European Union, United Kingdom, and Switzerland, highlighted the potential dangers of the ongoing M23 rebel offensive in eastern Congo.
The outbreak of conflict, allegedly supported by Rwanda, around Uvira near Burundi, poses significant risks to stability across the entire region, they warned.
