Opposition leader María Corina Machado emerged in Oslo shortly after her daughter accepted the Nobel Peace Prize on her behalf. This marked her first public appearance in nearly a year, since she went into hiding to avoid Venezuelan government repression.

Machado was honored for mounting a peaceful challenge to President Nicolás Maduro's authoritarian regime. While in Oslo, she met with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, who expressed Norway's readiness to support a democratic transformation in Venezuela.

Machado's trip was kept secret, with her reiterating the need for confidential measures to ensure her safety. She vowed to return to Venezuela despite the risk, continuing her fight for freedom and insisting on the significance of her country's welfare globally.
