In Nagpur, tensions flared ahead of the municipal elections as BJP candidate Bhushan Shingne was injured in a scuffle involving more than 100 people, police reported Thursday.

The incident occurred around midnight when Shingne visited Gorewada, suspecting anti-social elements were attempting to disrupt the electoral atmosphere and illicitly distribute money, according to Dayashankar Tiwari, the party's city chief.

Police have registered a case against an unidentified individual and are scrutinizing CCTV footage as part of an ongoing investigation. Voting is in progress for 29 municipal corporations across Maharashtra, including Nagpur.
