Polling across 29 municipal corporations in Maharashtra has commenced, drawing attention as real estate businessman and son of Maharashtra Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha, Abhishek Lodha, participated in the voting process. He encouraged citizens to vote, highlighting the direct impact civic polls have on daily life.
The voting started today at 7:30 am and will continue until 5:30 pm, with vote counting scheduled to start on January 16. Speaking to ANI, Abhishek Lodha said, 'Voting is very important for everyone. The BMC elections have a significant impact on our daily lives. We request all citizens to come out in large numbers and cast their votes.'
Early data shows voter turnout at 7.12 percent by 9:30 AM, with men double the number of women voters. Mumbai's highest turnout was 11.57 percent in Ward 18, and the lowest at 1.68 percent in Ward 162. The political battle in Mumbai and Pune sees BJP and Shiv Sena contesting under the Mahayuti banner, facing the united front of Raj and Uddhav Thackeray. The outcomes will be pivotal for the BMC, a significant civic body and economic hub.
